Hindsgavl Slot
Hindsgavl Alle 7, Middelfart
Hindsgavl Slot is a manor house and former royal estate and entailed estate on a peninsula in Vends Herred west of Middelfart. The present building was erected in 1784 to designs by Hans Næss, and the castle lies close to Hindsgavl Voldsted. The origin of Hindsgavl is lost in the mists of time. The last element of the oldest form of the name "Hegnesgaffuel", gavl, is the old term for a cliff-bounded headland. The area was called Hegnet and was used for royal hunting. At the end of the 1200s a castle "Hegnets Gavl" was built on a mound on the peninsula.
