Description
An informal introduction to Wagner's masterwork – the second hour Join us and prepare for the great opera event of our time! We invite everyone to a free Study Ring with Wagner specialist Erling E. Guldbrandsen. This time the theme is the music and the leitmotifs. How to prepare for the Ring It is happening – soon! In January 2027 the starting signal is given for Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen at Den Norske Opera & Ballett. In the years 2027–2029 it will leave its mark on the Opera House, on our opera country and on all of us who live here. The soloists are singing Wagner in the rehearsal rooms and the workshops are building Valhalla, but how do we, as an audience, prepare for this great event in Norwegian opera history? When the world is at stake You don't need to know a great deal to enjoy The Ring of the Nibelung. The story and the music grip you directly. Even so: with more insight, the experience becomes richer still – and even more fun. For the Ring is more than a saga about gods and heroes. It is a story about a world in change. About power, desire and collapse. About questions that concern us too – historically, mythologically, philosophically and existentially. Second hour – on the music The Study Ring runs over several years. You can come once or many times. No registration. No exam. Previously we held a study circle in which we asked the question: What is the deal with the Ring of the Nibelung, really? It is available as a podcast under Operaen på øret. With us we have Wagner specialist Erling E. Guldbrandsen, professor of musicology, opera researcher and an outstanding communicator, in conversation with Hedda Høgåsen-Hallesby. On Tuesday 10 November he will, together with pianist and study leader Boris Schäfer, teach us more about the music and the many so-called leitmotifs that together make up the musical universe of the Ring of the Nibelung. On 24 November there will be a Study Ring on the text, with Wagner translator Eve-Marie Lund.
