Made in Norway with Christiania Strykekvartett

Description

Christiania Strykekvartett is a relatively new ensemble on period instruments consisting of Katie Debretzeni and Daniel Lyngstad - violin, Mari Giske - viola and Gunnar Hauge - cello. With a broad background in historical performance practice, these four musicians explore the string quartet of the Classical period with the main emphasis on our own composers from the era, with the aim of making this music relevant once more for today's audiences. There is a forgotten quartet repertoire by composers who lived in Norway at the end of the 1700s and the beginning of the 1800s, and most of this music has been stowed away until quite recently. Christiania strykekvartett has begun the exciting work of seeking out this entertaining repertoire and taking it on tour to bring it to light and to audiences. In tonight's programme the "Norwegian" composers Hans Hagerup Falbe and Friedrich August Reissinger are set side by side with the "father" of the Viennese Classical string quartet, Joseph Haydn. Everything suggests that this will be the first time these quartets by Falbe and Reissiger are played in modern times.
