Forsvarets stabsmusikkorps is one of the Armed Forces' five military bands and Norway's largest professional wind orchestra, based at Akershus fortress. The band was established in 1818 and at 201 years old is Oslo's oldest musical institution. Since its start the band has been the Armed Forces' most important representational orchestra, with regular assignments for the Royal House, the Storting, the Government and units of the Armed Forces. Every 17 May "Stabsmusikken" has the honourable task of leading the capital's children's parade, and in the summer half of the year the band is known for the much-loved guard parades from Akershus fortress in connection with the changing of the guard at the Royal Palace. The band has extensive concert activity in eastern Norway and also takes part in international military music festivals and tattoos. In its anniversary year the band released two CDs showing the breadth of its repertoire: the jazz/big band album «It's Magic» with the young singing talent Angelina Jordan and «Tre konger» with marches and classical music.
