Pentacornicus Blåsekvintett was established in autumn 2024 in connection with two engagements in September that year, including for Ski Historiske Konserter. The quintet gave its first concerts in Ski and at Asker kulturskole on 5 and 6 September 2024. The line-up is the classic wind quintet with flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon, and the ensemble works with a repertoire ranging from classical wind quintet literature to more recent Norwegian music. An important part of the establishment was the first performance of Morten Gaathaug's The Joy of Life, Op. 138, which was performed by Pentacornicus at Rådhusteatret in Ski on 5 September 2024. Pentacornicus is a project-based ensemble drawing on experienced professional musicians, and aims to present the wind quintet as a flexible and living chamber music format. The ensemble's activity is also part of Roger Arve Vigulf's many years of work establishing and developing new ensembles and concert opportunities.
