In 2026 we step into the world of fairy tales. Since the dawn of music, composers have been inspired by legends and myths. In vocal music the story is told through words, while instrumental music lets the listener create their own inner images. Before the age of photography and travel, the imagination had to fill the void, and the exotic gained a foothold in music from the end of the 1700s. In the 1800s national consciousness grew, and folk music found its way into art music. European composers sought adventure in America – and eventually the USA found its own voice. Stavanger Kammermusikkfestival is a regional festival with its main base in Stavanger kommune. We also arrange individual concerts in, and collaborate with, other municipalities; Sola, formerly Rennesøy, Sandnes, Time etc. This varies somewhat from year to year, but we always place concerts in Sandnes kulturhus, Ruinkirken on Sola and of course Utstein kloster on Mosterøy. The festival's vision is to be one of Europe's leading chamber music festivals for performers and audiences. The consistently high artistic quality is the backbone of the festival. We will strengthen the intrinsic value of the art form through continuation, raising of quality and innovation.
