Opera til folket invites you to this year's Opera Festival, which takes place from 23 to 27 September. The festival, which for many years has had the aim of bringing opera out to ordinary people, once again fills the capital with beautiful singing, strong stories and living culture, on both small and large stages. Oslo Operafestival aims to show everyone how beautiful and exciting opera is, regardless of age or prior knowledge.
A broad range
- Oslo Operafestival is deliberately planned to embrace a wide range. With opera pubs and cafés we lower the threshold and create low-threshold meeting places, while the more traditional concerts give the audience high artistic quality. The children's performances make sure the youngest are included and recruit the audience of the future, says festival director Gjøril Songvoll.
Several of the concerts take place at traditional concert venues such as Gamle Munch, Gamle Raadhus Scene and Universitetets aula. In addition you can experience the opera music at Østbanehallen and Grønland Boulebar.
The festival's deliberate curation, aimed at reaching a broad audience, is by no means at the expense of artistic weight. The festival can boast top-quality musicians and an exciting and broad programme with composers such as Johann Strauss, Georges Bizet and Leoš Janáček.
Save the dates
- Opera is music and theatre in beautiful union, and all you need is curiosity. Songvoll has an infectious passion for opera. This is guaranteed to rub off on everyone who chooses to come along during the week.
So if you want to be bitten by the bug, you must mark 23-27 September in your calendar. On Opera til folket's website you will find all the information about the concerts.
All that is left is to look forward to a week filled with opera and joy. As Songvoll says in the interview:
- You do not need to prepare - just turn up with an open mind!
