Norrbottens Kammarorkester
Norrbottens Kammarorkester is a publicly funded chamber orchestra, founded in 1990 and based in the cultural village of Acusticum in Piteå.
The chamber orchestra, with some 30 musicians, started as a collaborative project between Norrbottensmusiken and Musikhögskolan i Piteå. The long-term strategy was - and is - that the orchestra should consist of both younger freelance musicians and musicians/music teachers living in upper Norrland. The orchestra has the concert hall Studio Acusticum as its home base and sometimes collaborates with Piteå Kammaropera and a number of distinguished soloists, composers and conductors. The repertoire focuses on music of the 1700s and 1800s, but newer works and first performances of Swedish and international music and record releases are also part of its activities. An exchange with the symphony orchestra at Norrlandsoperan has also taken place for several years.
Elemér Lavotha has been artistic adviser since 2016.
