Description
Frederiksberg Solistkor performs Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, Op. 48 - for choir, soloists and organ. At the concert you will also be able to hear César Franck's Prière, Op. 20 - for organ, and two a cappella motets for All Saints'. Admission to the concert will be free. Gabriel Fauré began his Requiem in D minor, Op. 48, in 1887 and by 1890 the score was complete. The Latin text used is what we today call "the shortened Catholic mass for the dead" or "a little requiem". The work is regarded as the best known of Fauré's major works. Fauré chose to divide the music into seven movements: Introit et Kyrie, Offertorium, Sanctus, Pie Jesu, Agnus Dei, Libera Me and In Paradisum - with the famous soprano solo "Pie Jesu" as a highlight. Fauré's Requiem lasts 38 minutes - he knows how to be brief! Fauré composes incredibly beautiful melodies, which he colours with the most exquisite chords to be found in Paris at that time at the end of the 1800s. A Requiem can become very different kinds of music. Fauré's Requiem was composed for comfort. Price: Free admission
