Poulenc's Organ Concerto - Helleruplund Orgelfestival 2026

Description

This concert revolves around the symphonic and atmospheric expression of the organ in a repertoire that ranges from late Romanticism to the contemporary Nordic sound world. Poulenc's Concerto pour orgue, cordes et timbales was composed between 1934 and 1938 on commission from Princess de Polignac and premiered in Paris with Maurice Duruflé as soloist. The work combines neo-baroque inspiration with modern harmony and a characteristic combination of lyrical absorption and rhythmic energy. The programme is supplemented with music by Sibelius and Rheinberger as well as Pēteris Vasks, who turns 80 this year, and whose musical universe is characterised by simplicity, atmospheric sound and great intensity.
