Description

Mørke & håb (Darkness & hope) is the composer and pianist Jakob Davidsen's new work, which is presented in a number of churches in connection with All Saints. The work takes as its starting point 7 poems by Ole Sarvig, which Davidsen has set to music. In addition there will be instrumental interludes that set the poems in relief.. To bring the work to life he has with him the internationally acclaimed bass-baritone Jakob Bloch Jespersen and the virtuoso clarinettist Peter Fuglsang. Sarvig's poems revolve around loss and grief, and the hope that in dark times is only sensed as a faint glimmer on the horizon. Here the feeling that life has come to a standstill and frozen solid is a basic theme and basic condition. This is occasionally interrupted by small glimmers of light and glimpses out into space. Jakob Davidsen has previously written music for poems by Ole Sarvig. That resulted in a concert series in 2021 (on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Sarvig's birth) as well as a CD release in 2022 on ILK-Music with the work “Uden alder” for five singers and five instrumentalists. About “Uden alder”, Gregers Dirckinck-Holmfeld wrote on gregersDH, among other things: “There is a wondrous calm and tonal beauty in Jakob Davidsen's impudent lingering in and familiarity with his material. The provocation lies in the sublime, self-assured familiarity with the texts and Davidsen's relationship to traditions and a deep-rooted trust in harmonic and restrained expression. His own exquisite and ultra-measured pianistic contribution to several of the songs from Sarvig's early poems ’Grønne digte’ and ’Jeghuset’ makes us listen and take in the texts' equally intimate frailty.” Performers: Jakob Bloch Jespersen - bass-baritone Peter Fuglsang - clarinet and bass clarinet Jakob Davidsen - piano Price: Free admission
