Description

M. Duruflé Requiem Op. 9, Four Motets Op. 10 with Bachkoret, Mezzo-soprano - Anna Caroline Olesen Baritone - Lauritz Jakob Thomsen Cello - Juliane Birkemose Soewarta Organ - Isak Birkemose Conductor - Christian Tophøj Buur. In May 1941 Duruflé accepted a commission of 10.000 francs from the Vichy government to write a "symphonic poem". He set to work straight away in the form of his Requiem for baritone, mezzo-soprano, mixed choir, cello and organ, but the work did not progress quickly and he was not finished when the government collapsed in 1944. Only in September 1947 was the work, Duruflé's Opus 9, complete. It is a traditional sacred Requiem in the same tradition as, for example, Fauré's Requiem. The 9 sections of the mass in all are centred on the Pie Jesu movement with a mezzo-soprano solo - based on liturgical texts in Latin and Greek from the Catholic Church's mass for the dead and burial ritual. In addition there are sketches for a suite for organ based on themes from Gregorian chant, on which Duruflé worked alongside. At both performances the requiem is supplemented by Duruflé's 4 Gregorian motets, Opus 10, which are performed à cappella. We in the Bach choir look forward to performing Duruflé's beautiful music with a team of skilled soloists and accompanists. Admission: 150 kr Price: 150 kr.
