Kammeroperaen opens the 2026/27 season with a grand festive production, celebrating Kammeroperaen's 10th anniversary with two lovely Italian one-act comedies: Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and the lesser-known but at least equally charming Il segreto di Susanna by Wolf-Ferrari. The two operas are staged by director Katrine Wiedemann. The season's theme, "In Debt to the Truth", is explored in two comedies that each treat it in their own humorous way. In Wolf-Ferrari's Il segreto di Susanna, a perfectly innocent lie is on the verge of having serious consequences. Susanna has a secret, which her husband believes to be infidelity, but which is in fact simply that she smokes cigarettes. In Puccini's Gianni Schicchi we all love the lie, since it serves a good cause: Gianni Schicchi must save the many relatives of the recently deceased Buoso from being disinherited by, disguised as Buoso, dictating a new will, whereupon he bequeaths the best of it to himself, in order to ensure that his daughter Lauretta can marry her beloved Rinuccio. Katrine Wiedemann lets the stories play out with the entire hall as a stage. On stage there are 11 soloists, among them Morten Frank Larsen as Gianni Schicchi, Jacob Skov Andersen as Rinuccio and Cassandra Lemoine both as Countess Susanna and the young Lauretta. The operas have been arranged for a chamber ensemble consisting of violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, bassoon, horn and piano by kapellmeister Leif Greibe, who is also in charge of the musical direction. The operas are sung in Italian. Duration approx. 2 hours and 30 minutes. Il segreto di Susanna by Wolf-Ferrari from 1909 has, as far as Kammeroperaen is aware, never been performed in this country, so the production is the Danish premiere of the work.
