Jørgen Ellekilde - Sounds of Winter
domorganist Jørgen Ellekilde
Description
Step into an atmospheric universe of sound and contrast as cathedral organist Jørgen Ellekilde takes the organ in Musikkens Hus and brings the sounds of winter to life. The concert offers a varied programme in which the moods of winter unfold through both iconic classics and strong musical narratives. Look forward to, among other things, Vivaldi's Winter from The Four Seasons - one of the most beloved works of classical music, in which cold, stillness and movement are portrayed in three movements. Also experience music by August Enna, who in his day was among the most performed Danish composers abroad and at home became best known for the opera The Little Match Girl. The programme also includes Liszt's virtuoso prelude and fugue on the notes B-A-C-H - a powerful tribute to Johann Sebastian Bach and one of Liszt's most significant organ works. After the interval you can experience Vierne's The Bells of Hinckley (Les cloches de Hinckley), a work inspired by church bells, in which the organ imitates their characteristic sound and lets the notes ring through the space. The concert is rounded off with excerpts from Dvořák's famous symphony From the New World. About Jørgen Ellekilde Jørgen Ellekilde is cathedral organist at Aalborg Domkirke, Budolfi Kirke, and a distinctive profile on the Danish organ scene. He trained at Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium, where he completed his master's degree in 2017 and was subsequently admitted to the soloist class with the highest grade. In spring 2019 he made his debut from Symfonisk Sal in Musikhuset Aarhus, where he was singled out with the words: "He possesses superior technical ability and plays an impressive programme in a most convincing and virtuosic way." During his studies he also pursued further training in Hamburg with Christoph Schoener, director of church music at the Michaeliskirche.
