Storytelling Concert with The Nordic Cello Duo
Heikki Takkula, cello
,Sofie Spanget Takkula, cello
Description
On this November evening at the end of the church year, a beautiful and moving experience awaits, when The Nordic Cello Duo, consisting of the cellists Heikki Takkula and Sofie Spanget Takkula, present ”A Concert Story about War, Loss, Hope and Compassion”. This is not merely a concert, but an interweaving of music and storytelling about what war does to people - and about the light that is sometimes kindled precisely where the darkness is deepest. In the DR TV programme ”Anne og Anders i Finland” we follow Sofie and Heikki in their former home in Finland. Here Heikki tells the story of his maternal grandfather, who was sent to war against Russia and never came home. He fell at the front and left his wife and three children - including Heikki's mother - alone in a time marked by fear, hunger and unbearable uncertainty. A life was torn away. A family was changed for ever. But even in the midst of the brutality of war there was human warmth. Through the Church of Denmark, ordinary people reached out to families they had never met. One of them was Maria Jensen from Billum. She wrote letters. She sent food, clothes and dolls. Small, concrete acts - but for a war-stricken family they became lifelines. Proof that someone saw them. That they were not forgotten. This concert weaves music and storytelling together into a powerful whole. The audience meets beautiful, virtuoso and atmospheric music from Denmark and Finland, among other places, closely interwoven with the story of Heikki's family's life during and after the war. Along the way, authentic letters from the grandfather at the front and from Maria Jensen are read aloud - words written by hand and carried by compassion, responsibility and a quiet but unshakeable human courage. It is a concert that hurts - but also a concert that insists on hope. A reminder that music, care and human action can create light, even when the world falls apart. The Nordic Cello Duo, consisting of the acclaimed cellists and married couple Sofie Spanget Takkula from Denmark and Heikki Takkula from Finland, have since meeting at the prestigious Sibelius Academy in Helsinki created a unique musical bond, which has delighted audiences in both Denmark and Finland. With their deeply moving expression and beautiful tonal colours they are able to enthral every listener. Having lived in Finland for the past eight years, the duo has now returned to Denmark and settled in Odense, where Sofie was born and raised. Free admission and concert café Doors open at 18.45
