Advent Concert with Haderslev Cathedral Boys’ Choir

Description

HADERSLEV DRENGEKOR (Haderslev Boys’ Choir) was founded by Henrik Skærbæk Jespersen in 2008. The choir is a mixed boys’ and men’s choir of 60 singers aged 9 and up. The choir takes part in special services in Haderslev Cathedral. There is a high level of activity with concerts, experiences and tours. Once a year the choir travels abroad and has given concerts in Norway, Sweden, Germany, Austria, England, France, the Faroe Islands and the USA. Taking part in gatherings and masterclasses with Danish and foreign conductors has helped the choir establish itself in a short time as a strong, popular and sought-after boys’ choir. Among other things it has sung concerts in all of Denmark’s 10 cathedrals. The aim is to create a choir that, through a strong sense of community, gives good musical and social experiences. Choir rehearsals are held several times a week, both as full rehearsals and in separate voice groups. The boys also receive solo singing lessons. The choir has recorded three CDs. Royal Warrant Holder: the boys’ choir has on several occasions sung for the royal family and the Danish government. The choir took part in the royal christening of Princess Athena, sang for Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince Consort during an official visit to Haderslev and at the reopening of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. Most recently (2023) the choir took part in the confirmation of H.E. Count Henrik at the Frederikskirken in Paris. The choir was the headline act at the “Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs’ Christmas Concert” in 2017 – a concert for, among others, parliament and government. In 2020 the choir sang at the Royal Danish Theatre in connection with the reunification gala. The choir has been broadcast on Danish and German TV. Repertoire: The choir’s repertoire is classical church music – a cappella, with organ/piano or orchestra. Performances of Handel’s Messiah, Fauré’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem and Mozart’s Coronation Mass, as well as a number of concerts in European cathedrals. HENRIK SKÆRBÆK JESPERSEN is cathedral organist at Haderslev Cathedral, where in addition to his work as an organist he is founder and conductor of Haderslev Drengekor. He is also artistic director of Haderslev Sangakademi, which is founded on the vibrant and extensive choral work at the Cathedral, numbering about 200 singers. Henrik Skærbæk Jespersen trained at Vestjysk Musikkonservatorium with a diploma in church music. In 2011 he took up the post of cathedral organist at the age of 31. He continued his studies in choral conducting at Det Fynske Musikkonservatorium with Alice Granum and in the English choral tradition in Cambridge. Henrik Skærbæk Jespersen is an extremely active choral conductor who has conducted countless choirs and concerts in Denmark and abroad, and he is in demand as an instructor at courses and gatherings throughout the country. In 2020 he received the Frobenius Foundation’s great honorary prize of kr. 250,000. The concert starts at 15.00 - Admission kr. 75. Please note that the annual pass is not valid for this concert. Doors open at 14.15 - no advance registration possible.
