Christmas in Sokkelund

Description

”Jul i Sokkelund” offers traditional Christmas sounds in surprising arrangements for choir and jazz duo There is reason to prick up your ears when Sokkelund Sangkor meets the jazz duo Mads Granum, piano, and Thomas Fonnesbæk, double bass, on the second Sunday of Advent. A bouquet of extraordinary Christmas sounds awaits; from virtuoso Bach chorales and Danish hymns to jazzy arrangements of well-known Christmas songs. The concert is built around Luke’s Nativity story, which along the way is illuminated from unconventional angles by music in many styles. Here are songs about waiting for and having your first child, about the atmosphere in the stable as a prelude to the death on the cross, the major political consequences of a new Jewish king – and of course a choir of angels.
