Lucia with the Girls' Choir
Dirigent: Catarina Kynaston
Description
Sct. Mariæ Kirkes Pigekor, conductor: Catarina Kynaston Lucia with the girls' choir under the direction of Catarina Kynaston. Come and experience the very atmospheric Lucia procession in the cloister and the church, on Lucia Day itself, which is one of the most beautiful and atmospheric traditions of the year. Although the day takes its name from the Sicilian saint Saint Lucia, the Lucia celebration we know in Denmark and the rest of the Nordic countries is a beautiful fusion of Christian traditions and old Nordic customs, in which light stands as the central symbol. In the churches, Lucia Day marks the transition from the anticipation of Advent to the imminent Christmas festival. The light becomes an image of Christ, who according to the Gospel of John is called the light of the world. The Lucia procession therefore becomes not just a beautiful tradition, but also a reminder of hope, peace and charity – values that are central to the message of Christmas. Free admission.
