True to tradition, ”La nativité du Seigneur” by the French composer Oliver Messiaen is on the programme here in the run-up to Christmas: Nine meditations for organ on the birth of the Lord, composed back in 1935 and written for the Christmas season. And the listener must prick up their ears and be ready for wild, complex, demanding and quirky organ music all at once! At the same time the work should also be seen - Messiaen himself has said - as a starting point for the listener's and the believer's own exploration of what gives meaning to his or her life, - a space for reflection here in the middle of the busy Christmas season.
