Description
We can look forward to an evening of atmospheric baroque music, when Markuskirken receives a visit from three genuine baroque experts of world renown. The Welsh soprano Ruby Hughes first studied cello at the Guildhall in London, but during further studies in Munich she switched to singing. She won prizes at "The London Handel Singing Competition" in 2009, and the same year she made her stage debut at the Theater an der Wien. She was immediately in great demand in baroque opera, where she has worked with specialists such as Hervé Niquet and Philippe Herreweghe. But she is also a devoted lieder singer and has recorded songs by, among others, Mahler, Debussy and Richard Strauss. She has a recording contract with BIS records, and in 2017 the album "Heroines of Love and Loss" was released with precisely the three musicians we meet today. The Swedish lutenist Jonas Nordberg studied in Stockholm and at the Mozarteum Salzburg. He has played with some of the world's leading baroque orchestras such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Concerto Köln and Drottningholms Barokensemble. He made his recording debut in 2015, and among his recordings one can find solo works for lute by Kapsberger, de Visée, Weiss and Dowland, but also flute sonatas by Vivaldi and Roman together with the recorder player Dan Laurin. He has taken part in experimental projects that have tried to fuse baroque music with modern dance, and in the years 2018-2020 he was Artist-in-residence at Konserthuset in Stockholm. Mime Yamahiro-Brinkmann is a Japanese cellist who moved to The Hague in the Netherlands in the late 90s, and pricked up her ears at the new ideas of a "historically correct" performance of baroque music. She has played with top ensembles such as La Petite Bande, Bach Collegium Japan, and Barokksolistene. The album Cello Rising (BIS, 2016) was followed by Bach's complete cello suites (Arcantus, 2020) and in 2022 "Boccherini's Dream". Alongside her career she is a very busy teacher of baroque cello.
