Fantastic Tales
Description
Experience French music with a touch of fairy tale! For this concert we expand the orchestra with the most fairy-tale instrument of all, the harp. In the world of fairy tales we can experience everything from wonderful little stories to hair-raising Gothic horror. Caplet's quivering, dramatic music on Poe's story "The Masque of the Red Death" portrays every detail of Poe's horror tale. In the delicate Ma mère l'Oye, Ravel paints with a soft brush as he sets old French folk tales to gentle, delicate tones. In Introduction et allegro the harp is the star, and in Pavane pour une infante défunte Ravel conjures up the image of a princess's gentle dance steps. Debussy, too, was fascinated by the harp, and in Danse sacrée et Danse profane he gives voice to both the heavenly and the earthly aspects of the harp. Members of Randers Philharmoniske Selskab have free admission to the concert in Randers.
