Esbjerg Musikforening
Esbjerg
"Esbjerg Musikforening's concerts are all held in the concert hall of Syddansk Musikkonservatorium, Esbjerg, with entrance from H. C. Ørstedsgade.
The building was erected in 1907 and housed Esbjerg's first power station. In the 1990s, when all electricity production was moved to Vestkraft at the harbour, the rector Aksel Momme set his heart on the old power station, and he succeeded in getting the state to buy the buildings and pay for the extensive conversion. It ended up as a modern, well-appointed educational institution with the best equipment.
The old turbine hall with the fantastic barrel-vaulted ceiling, which from the start was fitted with coffers with stucco rosettes, was fitted out as a concert hall with room for 200 listeners.
A couple of years after the hall was brought into use, it was fitted with a wonderful organ built by Marcussen & Søn in Aabenraa.
Once the organ was in place the acoustics were perfect, so that Esbjerg Musikforening can hold its concerts in what is perhaps the country's best and most beautiful concert hall.
Under the barrel vault along the side walls the painter Hans Tyrrestrup has executed a series of paintings that complete the concert hall."
