Frederiksværk
THE FESTIVAL
Frederiksværk Musikfestival was founded in 1991 by one of the distinctive personalities of Danish musical life, the then cellist and professor Asger Lund Christiansen, together with a small circle of enthusiasts in Halsnæs Kommune.
The festival started shortly after the reopening of Gjethuset as a concert series of about 8-9 concerts – mainly with Danish performers. The intention was to give the area's residents and summer visitors some musical experiences at a high level and at the same time strengthen Frederiksværk's cultural profile.
After 5 years as artistic director, Asger Lund Christiansen was succeeded by the cellist Charlotte Lund Christiansen. In 2000 she took the initiative to expand the festival's content with a further 8 concerts divided into 2 series with different themes, and work was then done to also present high-profile artists from abroad, and to invest further in newly written chamber music.
Michael Dabelsteen – double bassist with the DR Symfoniorkestret – has been artistic director since 2001 and has been in charge of the overall planning of the annually recurring concert series.
