Welcome to Odense Barokfestival
Musical life is experiencing a growing current of “early music”, including baroque music, played on original instruments and in accordance with historical performance practice. This is in a search for the authentic sound and core, not only in the work of "great" baroque composers such as J.S. Bach, G.F. Händel and G.P. Telemann, but also among many lesser-known or entirely forgotten composers. The driving force is first and foremost an intoxicating joy and fascination with the wealth of splendid, energetic, catchy and compelling music that came into being in this period.
Odense Barokfestival considers this an important project, and believes that Funen and Odense too should benefit from this movement in musical life. The festival's organisers have ambitions to spread knowledge of early music and baroque music by organising concerts and concert series, contributing to an early-music environment of high artistic class and quality.
