About SPOR festival
Since 2005, SPOR has worked ambitiously to bring the newest sound and music art up to date and to spread it, nationally as well as internationally. SPOR's main activity is the annual SPOR festival, which takes place in May at a number of established venues and alternative locations in Aarhus.
SPOR festival
The heart of the SPOR festival beats warmly for all the fantastic new music and sound art that is created to challenge and meet an audience, to beautify, to rethink or to show other paths. At SPOR you can experience both established international composers/works/musicians and young talents, for whom we make a point of establishing a producing platform. There are very few (if any!) safe choices in SPOR's programming. That gives butterflies in the stomach and a lot of legwork, but also - year after year - plenty of proof that the genre is thriving and developing rapidly.
A long tradition
SPOR festival took place for the first time in 2005 under the direction of the composer Thomas Agerfeldt Olesen and with the composer Niels Rønsholt as that year's curator. Since June 2007, Anne Marqvardsen and Anna Berit Asp Christensen have served as the institution's artistic and administrative directors.
SPOR's home in Aarhus builds on a long tradition. Through the ages, Aarhus has stood out as a forward-looking and visionary platform for the newest sound and music art. A position that was established in particular through the NUMUS festival, which was realised by the composer Karl Aage Rasmussen over 25 years from 1978 to 2002.
