Bach-festival
22. mar. - 24. apr.
København
With Easter as its pivot, Trinitatis Kirke puts the focus on one of the very greatest masters in music history: J.S. Bach. From 22 March to 24 April it is thus possible to hear the master composer's music at ten concerts and two large cantata services in Trinitatis Kirke.
The festival opens with Bach's magnificent Mass in B minor, performed by Trinitatis Kantori, baroque orchestra and a top team of vocal soloists associated with Trinitatis Solistensemble. The work was Bach's last great work of church music; an unsurpassed finale to a long career as a church musician and composer, and can be described as a mastodon of a work that demands every musical and vocal resource from the performers. The work is not a passion piece, yet it is very well suited to Eastertide, when it is also often performed. Through the classical Latin mass text, the divine and the earthly are united through Bach's immortal music.
DR Vokalensemblet visits Trinitatis Kirke with three concerts; in March with an Easter concert where Bach's “Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden” is set against music by Bingham, Ødegaard, Liszt and not least Sven-David Sandström's “Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden” (after J. S. Bach's motet of the same name). Later in April it is possible to experience all of J.S. Bach's masterly motets for choir with DR Vokalensemblet and honorary conductor Marcus Creed spread over two evenings. The celebration begins with three virtuoso and expressive motets for choir and continuo, which are joined by two famous organ works, played by cathedral organist Kristian Krogsøe, Aarhus.
There is also organ music on the programme at several concerts, when Professor Erwin Wiersinga (Holland), Johannes Unger (Marienkirche Lübeck) and the organ talents of the future from Det Kgl. Danske Musikkonservatorium take their seats at the organ bench at the great main organ in Trinitatis Kirke. And Easter is held in Bach's name – with passion concerts in Holy Week, framed by Bach's Cantata 182: “Himmelskönig sei wilkommen” and Cantata 6 “Bleib bei uns” at the cantata services on Palm Sunday and Easter Day.
