Jødisk Kulturfestival
31. maj - 7. jun.
København
This year we celebrate the 15th Jødisk Kulturfestival and thus a kind of anniversary, which we look forward to celebrating together with you. This year the festival has put the focus on the diverse and living Jewish music, which in many ways forms the heart of Jewish life. Wherever Jews have settled through the ages, the music has developed in interplay with local traditions, and you can experience this right from the festival's first day, when we present the unique band Light of Babylon, who play oriental music with deep roots in the Middle East.
There is also the chance to experience several bands with klezmer, cantorial music, classical tones, jazz, tango and much more – never before has the programme been so varied and rich in musical experiences.
The festival also offers debates on current topics that affect us all and invite reflection and conversation. Jewish research is a subject the festival has not touched on before to the same extent, but we are putting that right now. See the article inside the programme itself.
As something new, the festival spreads out this year over several different places – among others in the tent behind Trinitatis kirke, where you can both receive dance instruction and try your hand at the dance yourself. You can also take part in debates and cosy conversations. It will become a new gathering point for the festival.
True to tradition, the festival will also offer guest performances, lectures and films from many countries, which together give a broad impression of Jewish life. And we must not forget the Jewish theatre from Hungary, which serves as a prelude to this year's festival.
Jødisk Kulturfestival sends a big thank you to everyone who has contributed to the planning, and who help bring the festival to life, including security guards and police as well as the many volunteers. We are deeply grateful for the support from foundations, sponsors, ministries, embassies and all the artists who make the festival possible.
Looking forward to seeing you again!
