Klang Festival is shaped by a hunger for discovery: What is new? What is fresh? What points forward? Those questions are important and they help define Klang's identity. But at a time when the foundations of our society are under pressure, we feel called to ask deeper questions: What do we need culture for? What about experimental music – who is it for? What is the purpose of Klang? And who is the festival really for? There is a dangerous tendency to regard culture as a luxury – something optional, a layer of decoration for those who can afford it. That narrative we have to reject. For the moment we accept that premise, culture loses its power. It becomes decoration. Presenting culture as a luxury is misleading. We choose another premise: No culture, no humanity. Every single society on Earth creates music, rituals and ceremonies - not as entertainment, but as a necessity. We need them to mark transitions, to share experiences in order to understand ourselves. In a world that can often feel meaningless, culture offers meaning. And right now we find ourselves in a place where we truly need that meaning - to understand ourselves and our place in the world.
