Take a tree – in the same way as a familiar piece of music that we think we know. We walk past it without stopping. It just stands there, after all. Just like the music we have heard so many times. This year Odsherred Kammermusikfestival invites you on a journey of discovery into the music and its roots. Roots are the theme of the 2026 festival, which we are busy preparing. Wonderful musicians from all over the world travel, for a few bright summer days, to Odsherred from concert stages everywhere to take part in the 36th Odsherred Kammermusikfestival in the series. It is in the meeting between these musicians, and between the musicians and the audience, that the music arises. When music grows from its roots, as a process, the music is always new. It arises in the meeting between musicians, between bodies, between tradition and moment, between the written and the sensed. The audience plays an important part in this process. They are the soil. A resonant space. Attention is nourishment too. When people gather around the music, a temporary ecosystem arises in which the sound circulates, is influenced and changes. The music happens in the room. Last year the audience flocked to the festival on an unprecedented scale. Helping to create the good atmosphere is the collaboration between the experienced musicians in a lovely interplay with young talents from Jakob Gade's talent programme. That collaboration continues, just as the festival this year also gets a resident ensemble. It is a great joy to present Carion Blæserkvintet. Carion's fresh approach to chamber music has earned the quintet enthusiastic reviews at prestigious European festivals such as Beethovenfest Bonn, Bergen Festival, Budapest Festival, Båstad Festival, Helsinki Festival and Tonhalle Maag, and standing ovations in the USA, South America and the Far East. The Danish-Latvian wind quintet consists of Dóra Seres, flute, Egils Upatniek, oboe, Egīls Šēfers, clarinet, David M.A.P. Palmquis, horn, and Niels Anders Vedsten Larsen, bassoon. Carion's repertoire is interesting and varied, well grounded in the well-known wind works and with beautiful critical praise for its interpretation of Carl Nielsen, Jacques Ibert, Hindemith, Vasks and especially Ligeti's Six Bagatelles. Carion has worked with contemporary composers such as Renāte Stivriņa, Britta Byström and Anders Nordentoft. And the quintet has released a number of acclaimed CDs, which have had reviewers from, for example, BBC Magazine cheering. Welcome to a journey of discovery in the ever-new, changing world of music!
