_____
In October 2023 the baroque ensemble Camerata Øresund opens the doors to Baroktoberfest for the fifth year in a row - a sparkling festival with a varied programme in a cosy and relaxed atmosphere. The festival takes place on 27-28 October 2023 in Koncertkirken, Copenhagen, and offers a series of exciting concerts for music lovers.
Baroktoberfest is aimed at a broad audience; at you who love classical music, baroque music or folk music, and equally at you who are simply curious about new musical experiences. With a unique combination of concerts, communal dining and a dance workshop, where the audience can get in close contact with the musicians, the festival is a perfect opportunity for a social evening under the banner of music. During and between the concerts you can quench your thirst at the bar and taste pretzels in the best Oktoberfest style!
The festival offers an impressive series of concerts and events. On Friday the audience can quite literally eat their way through Biber's 'dinner music', and later in the evening experience works from the whole Bach dynasty, including a performance by the mezzo-soprano Sophie Haagen. Saturday starts with a baroque dance workshop, followed by the release concert for Camerata Øresund's album 'Pas de bourrée,' which offers danceable and swinging baroque music by composers such as Campra and Purcell. The festival culminates on Saturday evening with a special concert where the ensemble meets the Swedish nyckelharpa virtuoso Erik Rydvall, who brings the legendary tones of folk music into Vivaldi's Four Seasons.

Programme
Friday 27 October
At 19.00 Mensa sonora – the resounding table (+ communal dining)
Inspired by the collection of works Mensa sonora (the resounding table) by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber, Camerata Øresund offers a stunning taste experience, both literally and musically. Mensa Sonora is a collection of six instrumental suites or "Pars", with the subtitle "instrumental table music with fresh resounding violin sonorities". This fantastic music, with all its unexpected harmonies and rhythms, was probably intended as background music during an aristocratic dinner. To Biber's tones the audience at Baroktoberfest can enjoy a lovely dinner, a complete experience where we together enjoy both food and music and thereby stimulate both our senses of taste and hearing.
At 20.30 The Bach family – it stays in the family – with Sophie Haagen (mezzo-soprano)
We all know the composer icon Johann Sebastian Bach - the alpha and omega of the baroque. But Johann Sebastian was far from the only one in his family blessed with exceptional musicality - the family teemed with musical talents: Various uncles, cousins, sons, daughters and wives were musicians, singers or composers. The concert The Bach family becomes a true musical family party where, besides works by JSB, we play music by, among others, the uncle Johann Christoph Bach, the cousin Johann Bernhard Bach and the son Wilhelm Friedemann Bach.
The mezzo-soprano Sophie Haagen joins us as soloist and sings the most beautiful arias from cantatas and other vocal works by the Bach clan. We look forward to paying tribute to the great Bach family!
Saturday 28 October
At 18.00 Workshop: baroque dance
The baroque dance specialist Jørgen Schou Pedersen leads everyone interested through the basic steps of baroque dance . The teaching is arranged so that everyone can take part! Should the urge arise, the audience are welcome to try out their new dance steps during the evening's release concert!
At 19.00 Pas de bourrée – release concert
Camerata Øresund's first album - Pas de bourrée - was released on Channel Classics in August 2023 and of course it must be celebrated at Baroktoberfest. On the album we put on our baroque dancing shoes and bring out the dancing elements of baroque music in minuets, bourrées and sarabandes by, among others, Campra, Purcell, Telemann and Roman. At the concert we play highlights from the album and we hope the audience will dance along. Those who have been to the baroque dance workshop before the concert may get to try out their newest dance moves, but it is also perfectly fine to enjoy the music sitting down and only tap with your big toe!
At 20.30 Late night folk baroque – with Erik Rydvall (nyckelharpa)
Baroktoberfest 2023 ends with a bang together with the nyckelharpa virtuoso Erik Rydvall. Rydvall played with Camerata Øresund for the first time in 2020 and it was a match without equal! We build on that collaboration and have developed a programme where we explore the crossover between baroque music and Swedish folk music - two genres that have more in common than one might at first think. The programme is a lovely mixture of baroque music and Swedish folk music. Among other things we play a selection from Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" - a traditional heavyweight of the baroque but with the addition of the nyckelharpa's unique sound, ornamentation and yes - who knows what else may arise in the borderland between folk music and baroque!
