Nordjyske Operadage in August 2025: A whole week of opera both outdoors and indoors There is opera with bubbles, opera in the cinema, opera in the open air and opera in the Concert Hall. Aalborg Operafestival becomes Nordjyske Operadage, because the musical experiences reach far beyond the town limits, but the concept in 2025 is still the same as it has been for many years – a week in August with lovely opera experiences for everyone. As always, the organisers are keeping their fingers crossed for good weather, because several of the free events take place outdoors. It opens with opera under the open sky in Rhododendronparken in Brønderslev on Saturday 9 August. Later in the week it is the turn of both Louises Plads and Salling Rooftop in Aalborg, and on the square in Nørresundby the vocal quartet KVartS throw the windows of the old town hall wide open and sing out over the square. That is on the last day of the opera week, Sunday 17 August. There are several old acquaintances on the programme – among others communal morning song at Aalborg Bibliotek and the concert Opera with Bubbles in Skalborg Kirke. In Budolfi Kirke the organist Jørgen Ellekilde and the soprano Susanne Elmark present Organ and Opera, and then there is Opera in the Cinema again this year – in collaboration with Biffen i Nordkraft. Here awaits both a spectacular staging of Madama Butterfly and the film about one of the greatest sopranos of all time, Maria Callas – here played by Angelina Jolie. Behind the festival is Musikkens Hus with support from, among others, Det Obelske Familiefond, Toyota Fonden, Aalborg Kommune and a number of North Jutland players. There are several exciting concerts waiting inside Musikkens Hus, but from here they also want to spread the experiences to all of North Jutland, and audiences in Aabybro and Fjerritslev can thus look forward to a visit from Musikkens Bus, which rolls out with the two sopranos Charlotte Hjørringgaard and Marianne Heuer, who will sing in competition with the birds. Inside Musikkens Hus awaits, among other things, the annual gala concert, where the Aalborg Operapris is awarded for the 22nd time. On stage in front of Aalborg Symfoniorkester stand two soloists – the soprano Carina Tybjerg and a former prizewinner, the tenor Peter Lodahl. They offer a string of pearls of seductive arias and duets. If you are more into the great choral works of the opera world, you should go to Intimsalen on Sunday 17 August and experience the choir Coro Misto and the soprano Signe Sneh Durholm. At the piano sits Arne Jørgen Fæø. And then one more plea to the weather gods from Musikkens Hus and Restaurant Fauna, who on Thursday 14 August offer an Italian evening on Musikkens Plads. Fauna lays the tables in the open air and serves a plate of Italian delicacies, while the soprano Gloria Tronel and the tenor Jonathan Koppel set the musical mood. Should it turn rainy, the whole affair moves indoors.
