With Nordsøens Resonans we have let the North Sea be our guiding star. The sea connects countries, people and stories – and in the same way we want the festival to connect musicians and audience in a living community here in Østerbro.
Over four days we present ten concerts with our house ensembles and close collaborators, including Esbjerg Ensemble and Ensemble MidtVest. The festival builds on our concert season, but allows us to gather our forces and think a little bigger – both in repertoire and in formats.
This year's programme moves like waves through time. We meet the sea quite literally with Claude Debussy in La Mer, and we travel towards the Faroe Islands with Carl Nielsen. With Ralph Vaughan Williams the English landscape opens up in long, singing lines, while Edvard Grieg brings festivity and energy into the string sound. With Felix Mendelssohn the journey becomes a quite central motif – his Scottish Symphony springs from his own experiences in Scotland and revolves around movement, landscape and impressions turned into music.
At the same time we are proud to present this year's festival composer, Sally Beamish, who with her eye for history and her strong contemporary voice ties threads across time. The festival is also a place where we play with the framework. We invite you to a family concert, a knitting concert, a banquet concert, a meditation concert and a coffee concert – formats where music and everyday life can meet in new ways. It will be exciting to involve the audience in these concerts!
As a common thread, this year we present a new Festival Signature by Gustav Bjerre. The work unfolds in several parts over the days and revolves around memory and movement – like small musical landmarks that you can recognise along the way.
The festival atmosphere spreads not only in the concert hall, but also on the cosy festival square, where food and drink are served during the festival
