KLOSTERKIRKEN

C. W. Obels Plads 5, Aalborg

Go to website
Budolfi Kirke is Aalborg's cathedral, centrally located in the town on Budolfi Kirkeplads between Algade and Gammeltorv. The church's present form dates from 1941-43, when the church underwent a major extension and rebuilding. Before that there stood a wooden church from the 1000s. In the Middle Ages the church was dedicated to the English saint Botholphus (genitive Botholphi), called Sankt Budolf in Danish. In 870 Danish countrymen destroyed Botholphus' monastery, where his relics were saved and distributed among three English monasteries. This made Botholphus known both in England and abroad.
