Svanekegaarden – et kulturcenter på Bornholm
Skippergade 6, 3740 Svaneke
Svanekegaarden opened on 7 June 1991 in newly furnished premises in the centre of Svaneke, in what had previously been an old merchant's yard. At that time the starting point for the initiative was a wish to highlight Baltic and Nordic art and culture on Bornholm, which after the fall of the Soviet Union was and is centrally placed in the Baltic Sea.
The driving force behind the start of Fonden Svanekegaarden was Preben Harris, who, helped by Lisbeth Schlüter, Ole Espersen and Robert Koch-Nielsen, created the necessary financial foundation for the foundation's establishment
Svanekegaarden consists of an exhibition building, a multi-workshop, three grant residences, a concert/theatre hall and a sculpture garden.
Svanekegaarden is visited annually by approx. 15,000 people, and is a year-round cultural institution with approx. 100 events a year within Classical, Rhythmic, Jazz, Theatre, Literature, Exhibitions, Lectures etc.
Fonden Svanekegaarden is an active player in Bornholm's cultural life and was, among other things, the coordinator of Bornholms Dukketeaterfestival and is now for Bornholms Litteraturfestival and Svanekegaarden Cello Festival.
