Venø

7600 Struer

Venø Kirke is the church on the island of Venø. It is 12 m long, the smallest of its kind in Denmark, and was built of split fieldstone and monastery brick immediately after the Reformation. The church has since been extended by a couple of metres to the west. In 1800 the floor in the chancel and the aisle was replaced. In 1863 the church's porch was added. At the same time the original entrance in the south was walled up. It was also decided to add another window in the south wall. In 1951 the tiled stove was replaced with electric heaters, and electric light was installed. In 1991 the church's wall paintings were rediscovered, having been hidden behind the whitewash; it was decided to uncover them, and this led to a thorough change of the church interior.
