Description

Bergen Nasjonale Opera turns 20 and invites you to a grand opera gala and the modern masterpiece Written on Skin - all in one evening! Join us on an operatic journey through 20 years as we celebrate the art of opera together, with highlights from the history of Bergen Nasjonale Opera since its start in 2006 - to a critically acclaimed work of our own time! OPERA GALA In the grand opera gala, tomorrow's opera stars - former participants from Opera ved fjorden - take us on a journey through our history and perform some of the highlights. Of course, not alone. An important part of the anniversary is also to celebrate the successful collaboration with Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester and Edvard Grieg Korene. Among the musical highlights we will experience are works from Tosca, The Marriage of Figaro, Rusalka and Carmen. Expect a high-spirited atmosphere, lovely arias and majestic choral works! WRITTEN ON SKIN In recent years Bergen Nasjonale Opera has had great success with modernisations of classics, Norwegian premieres and world premieres. It is therefore natural to use the 20th anniversary to also show one of the best operas of the 21st century, Written on Skin. "A musical masterpiece" is the label from a number of international reviewers, and this autumn you can experience this new classic in Bergen! The opera has been performed on opera stages all over the world since its premiere in 2012 and is today regarded as a modern masterpiece. With music that is explosive, intense and sensual, George Benjamin - together with Martin Crimp's poetic and richly imagistic text - creates a distinctive and deeply fascinating universe. The critically acclaimed production is directed by the British director Katie Mitchell. Mari Eriksmoen sings the role of Agnès. Performed by arrangement with Faber Music, London
