Beethoven 1, 2 and 4

Description

Jan Willem de Vriend opens the concert series with three of Beethoven's earliest symphonies. The first, from 1800, is clearly inspired by both Mozart and Haydn, yet stands out clearly and distinctly in Beethoven's own style. His fourth symphony is in a way sandwiched between two of the most famous symphonies, and is a look back at Viennese Classicism and his teacher Haydn. Symphony No. 2 can be seen as a transition from classical elegance to the more Romantic Symphony No. 3, “Eroica”. Ludwig van Beethoven is perhaps the most influential composer in classical music. He helped introduce the Romantic era and set off a musical revolution. In 2027 it is two hundred years since he died. Harmonien played Beethoven when he was a contemporary composer.
