Description
A Bird Opera for the whole family! Nattfolket is a new children's opera for everyone aged 8 and up, in which echoes of The Magic Flute, Carmen, children's songs, pop and contemporary music meet in a fairy-tale universe. The mayor and the investors want to cut down the old oak forest to build holiday cabins. The young people Ciril and Noah take up the fight to save the forest - and everyone who lives there. The music is by Knut Vaage, text by Bjørn Sortland and direction by Erik Ulfsby. Two worlds - one threatened forest The village of Indre Kluredal is divided in two: a local community with a town hall and development plans - and an old oak forest where the Nattfolket live in a magical universe. The Nattfolket are bird-like, human-like beings. They love to sing and to imitate sounds. They are shy and cling to the old ways. Few people know that they exist. The battle for the voice When forest owner and mayor Kjell wants to cut down the oak forest to make room for a cabin area and a nature park, the Nattfolket's entire livelihood is at stake. Their only opposing force is a witch who can take people's singing voices. And without a voice, life becomes both quiet and sad. Ciril and Noah decide to act. They set off to ask the queen herself in the capital for help. And she is more than willing - she wants to be a people's queen! It deals with deforestation and the need to take care of nature - a highly topical theme - but also with something quite fundamental: what happens when we lose our voice? Together on a new opera Nattfolket is part of a three-party collaboration between Den Norske Opera & Ballett, Trondheim Symfoniorkester & Opera and Bergen Nasjonale Opera. The collaboration aims to create more and exciting music drama. All the projects will be shown in Oslo, Trondheim and Bergen alike. Nattfolket is Bergen Nasjonale Opera's contribution to this project.
