Sibelius' Fifth Symphony

Description

Jukka-Pekka Saraste conducts Sibelius' Fifth Symphony Rolf Wallin has pushed boundaries throughout his career, and now we get to be part of the world premiere of his new commissioned work for Oslo-filharmonien. The programme also includes Anders Hillborg's Violin Concerto No. 2 with Ava Bahari as soloist. Honorary conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste and the orchestra close the concert with Sibelius' popular Symphony No. 5. In this concert three composers meet who have each in their own way explored the boundaries of music. The concert paints a picture of how composers from different eras have sought inspiration in everything from mathematical formulas and jazz and rock, to nature's own rhythms and the flight of birds over Finnish forests. From the boundary-breaking Norwegian who combines algorithms with inspiration from rock, via the Swedish explorer of sound who lets Bach meet modern virtuosity, to the Finnish master who transformed experiences of nature into timeless symphonic music. Programme: Rolf Wallin: Commissioned work Anders Hillborg: Violin Concerto No. 2 Jean Sibelius: Symphony No. 5 Performers: Jukka-Pekka Saraste, conductor Ava Bahari, violin
