Bergens kammermusikkforening is an independent, non-profit membership organisation whose purpose is to promote interest in chamber music. We arrange concerts of the very highest international calibre, while also keeping an eye out for talented Norwegian young people and dedicated local professional chamber musicians. The Board Sverre Oma (chair) Sigurd Arne Arnesen Hilde Marie Torgauten Lorentz Reitan Tone Nilssen Deputy member Torhild Nordtveit To contact the board, send an email to: post@bk-musikk.no HISTORY "In the autumn of 1934 a number of music enthusiasts in Bergen came together for preliminary discussions about founding a chamber music or quartet society in Bergen. At that time it was extremely rare to have the opportunity to hear chamber music in Bergen, since the chamber music activities of "Harmonien", which had once been quite lively, lay dormant in the interwar years and all the way up to the start of the Festival in 1953." So writes Albert Lepsøe about the initiative to found Bergens kammermusikforening – which was finally established in 1935. For almost ninety years the society has been an important part of Bergen's rich cultural life. The society has gathered enthusiastic amateur musicians and music lovers, and organised professional concerts with some of the world's finest musicians. During the occupation in the Second World War, the chamber music society was even a gathering point for the resistance movement!
