Terjungensemble
TERJUNGENSEMBLE was established in 2019 as a project-based chamber orchestra. The ensemble has taken a prominent position as one of the leading independent ensembles in Norwegian musical life, and has established itself with a clear contemporary profile and a firm ambition to regularly commission new works for chamber orchestra. Several of the ensemble's commissioned works have received nominations and prizes. An overarching aim is to present both classical and new music within the field of art music. New music appears on the concert programmes side by side with historical works by, among others, Mozart, Haydn, Bach, Mendelssohn and Purcell, and this creates a dialogue that is both contrasting and stimulating.
TERJUNGENSEMBLE has received much attention and recognition following concerts at, among others, the Ultima Festival, the Oslo Church Music Festival and Hardanger Musikkfest, and after the release of its first four albums, all with works by living Norwegian composers. The album Stabat Mater, with music by Tyler Futrell, was released on BIS records in 2024 and was nominated for the Spellemannprisen. Kimen, Den annen sang and Vóren / Fleurs have all been released on Fabra. The recordings have stood out as clear contributions to the dissemination of the music of our own time.
In the winter of 2025/26 the fifth album was recorded, with Cecilie Ore's H2O trilogy II and Jan Erik Mikalsen's new violin concerto Forest Night Music, with Miriam Helms Ålien as soloist, and it will be released in April this year.
Besides Miriam, TERJUNGENSEMBLE has so far engaged a number of younger soloists, among them Astrid Nordstad, Eirin Rognerud, Pierre Xhonneux, Synnøve Brøndbo Plassen, Silje Aker Johnsen, Ingebjørg Lognvik Reinholdt and Lara Macri, and integrates several younger, newly established freelancers into the ensemble.
TERJUNGENSEMBLE receives annual financial support from Arts Council Norway (Norsk kulturråd), and is regularly supported by Norsk Komponistforening, Fond for utøvende kunstnere, Fond for lyd og bilde, Furestiftelsen and Oslo Kommune. The ensemble also receives funds from the Ludimus-fondet.
