The Norwegian Chamber Orchestra has recently transformed into a collective of musicians made up of around 20 outstanding string players, most of them drawn from Oslo's freelance scene. With a more settled base of musicians, the ambition is to develop further as one of Europe's leading chamber orchestras. Photo: Mona Ødegaard Making the classical concert form relevant to today's audience has always been at the heart of the Chamber Orchestra – both in the classical concert tradition and through special concert projects in which we explore new ways of communicating that create greater closeness to both the music and the ensemble. Together with its artistic director Terje Tønnesen and skilled international guest leaders, the orchestra continually develops its distinctive style of playing and earns recognition both nationally and internationally. From autumn 2021 the Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto takes over as the orchestra's artistic director. The Chamber Orchestra has its own concert series in Universitetets Aula, as well as a new concert series, HørBar, at Sentralen.
