This week the violinist Michael Germer will give his concert recommendations 🎶.
Michael is the most recent recipient of DR P2's Talent Prize 2022. He is currently studying at Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium with Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider.
🔔 3 and 4 March - DRSO and Barbara Hannigan
I think you would have to search long and hard to find a composer who writes in a more spectacular way than Mahler. The Fourth Symphony is a little strange - written for a fairly small orchestra, he perhaps takes a more naive and imaginative approach to this symphony. What makes this concert even more extraordinary is Barbara Hannigan, who both conducts and sings the solo in the symphony. This is a concert you absolutely must not miss.
🦩 6 March - NOVO Quartet (Fuglsang Musikforening)
This up-and-coming quartet, based in Copenhagen and recently second-prize winners at the Trondheim Internasjonale Musikkonkurranse, will take Fuglsang Musikforening by storm in a daring programme of string quartets by Beethoven, Shostakovich and Mendelssohn. I have heard them and can promise that they will not disappoint.
🔥 6 March - 27 March - The Valkyrie (Det Kongelige Teater)
Speaking of writing in a spectacular way, Wagner is in every respect a rival to Mahler in this sense. This monster of an opera has everything - a gripping story, astonishing text, breathless music, all coming together in this new production at Det Kongelige Teater. And with Maestro Søndergård on the podium it can hardly go wrong.
