Hi! My name is Nicole Hogstrand and I am a cellist, composer and producer in the progressive string quartet Halvcirkel, the improvising and composing string ensemble Crushstringcollective and the music collective Damkapellet - all based in Copenhagen. I mostly work with contemporary and experimental music, but my love for classical music is great.
I have the pleasure of recommending some Copenhagen concert highlights to you!
📅 15 February: 17.00 Halvcirkel: Statens museum for Kunst
Welcome to a slightly different concert experience, in which the string quartet Halvcirkel interprets the painting L'Atelier Rouge by Henri Matisse. Through improvisation, circular patterns and minimalism, they unfold a soundscape that moves between dream and reality. The performance Portrait of a Space takes place four times, each at 15-minute intervals. The concert is free with the museum ticket.
📅 25 February: 19.00 Damkapellet: Demiurge / Koncertkirken
Damkapellet is a group of musicians and composers who always serve up something heartwarming and handmade, playing around with new constellations and elements of improvisation. In February they released the debut album Demiurge, and Koncertkirken and Vinterjazz will host their festive launch concert this evening! You can be sure to expect a lively atmosphere and beautiful newly written music by Lokrits, Greta Eacott, Kirstine Lindemann and Randi Pontoppidan
📅 26 February: 15.00 DUEN and Christina Åstrand / Garnisonskirken
I have worked closely with the composer Signe Lykke on various projects and her music is, as always, hauntingly beautiful. In the world premiere of Crux, for solo violin and string orchestra, the process of creation together is at the centre.
📅 19 March: 16.00 Ensemble Hermes: The Fruit of Silence / Literaturhaus
I have never heard Ensemblehermes play live before, but I am very curious about their work! The string ensemble creates an engaging concert experience to bring about a moment of peace and beauty by including light design in the space. They play a couple of meditative and atmospheric pieces by some of my favourite composers.
