Gamle Raadhus Scene is on the second floor of Gamle Raadhus, with Gamle Raadhus Restaurant on the ground floor, at Nedre Slottsgate 1. We choose to use the address Christiania Torv 1, as it shows more precisely where the entrance to these premises is. The building was Christiania's first town hall. It was built in 1641 by the councillor Lauritz Hansen with contributions from the king. In the 1600s it was the town's only major public venue. Gamle Raadhus therefore housed many different activities. In time the Freemasons moved into the premises on the second floor and built the beautiful columned hall that is there today. The Theatre Museum was based in the premises for many years, and now Opera til folket has been able to rent the building from the Culture Department. The premises are to be filled with music, opera, rehearsals for larger productions, courses, meetings, gatherings for freelancers and much, much more. We look forward to helping create a home base for Oslo's opera singers, musicians and, not least, the city's residents.
