Kerson Leong & Camerata Nordica

Kerson Leong, ledare & solist, violin

Description

– A bold and moving journey through time, memory and transformation: at the centre is Max Richter's acclaimed Recomposed: Vivaldi's Four Seasons, a modern reinterpretation of a timeless masterpiece. With the outstanding violinist Kerson Leong as leader, the music gains a unique intensity, clarity and emotional power. The evening opens in stillness with Arvo Pärt's Summa, a work of quiet, radiant beauty. With the Latin Credo text as its basis, Pärt portrays faith and contemplation in his characteristic tintinnabuli style (from Lat. tintinnabulum, meaning bell). It is music that asks the listener to pause: a perfect way into the rest of the programme. From Estonia to Norway: Edvard Grieg's Two Melodies offer a warmly expressive contrast. Rooted in Norwegian folk tradition and romantic lyricism, these two short pieces, Det sårede hjerte and Våren, carry a bittersweet tenderness that lingers long after the last note. Våren in particular – is some of the most heart-rending music Grieg ever wrote. Johann Sebastian Bach's Violin Concerto in E major is perhaps his most joyful and inventive concerto and places Kerson Leong at the centre of a dancing conversation with the orchestra. The outer movements sparkle with energy and wit, while the central Adagio offers a moment of deeply personal lyricism. After the interval the programme takes a bold turn. Max Richter's Recomposed: Vivaldi – The Four Seasons has become one of the great musical successes of the 2000s, a work that bridges centuries and genres while remaining deeply rooted in Vivaldi's original musical language. Familiar motifs meet us in a new guise: pulsating rhythms, shimmering harmonies and subtle electronic textures give the music a completely new perspective. The result feels both intimate and grand, like rediscovering a classic through a new, clearer lens. Together these works form a journey between light and shadow, memory and renewal. With Kerson Leong at the helm, Camerata Nordica offers an experience in which the familiar becomes new: alive, enveloping and deeply moving. Programme: Pärt: Summa Grieg: Two Melodies, Op. 53 Bach: Violin Concerto in E major, BWV 1042 Max Richter: Recomposed: Vivaldi's The Four Seasons
