Blåsarsymfonikerna (formerly Stockholms Läns Blåsarsymfoniker) has, like Länsmusiken i Stockholm, Musikaliska on Nybrokajen in Stockholm as its home stage. It is a curious orchestra that stands out for its great breadth of genre, its cross-boundary collaborations and its unusually gender-equal programming policy. Blåsarsymfonikerna operates with the support of Region Stockholm. Blåsarsymfonikerna has developed from a band under SL's management – under the name Stockholms Spårvägsmäns Musikkår – into a modern, bold and innovative ensemble that is now in its 114th year. The orchestra operates mainly in Stockholm County, but has established itself as one of the Nordic region's leading wind ensembles with a growing international reputation. The orchestra today consists of 27 half-time musicians and two half-time organisers. Most are also freelancers, several are composers, conductors, teachers at municipal arts schools and higher music education institutions, etc. Despite limited time at its disposal, Blåsarsymfonikerna carries out important educational work with concerts for and with children and young people. In English the orchestra is called The Swedish Wind Ensemble. Cathrine Winnes has been Blåsarsymfonikerna's artistic director since autumn 2015, and took up the post of chief conductor in 2016.
