Mikkel Ploug Solo The Danish guitarist Mikkel Ploug (b. 1978 in Hillerød) has over the past two decades established himself as a distinctive and innovative voice on the international music scene. With concerts in more than 25 countries, he has delighted audiences around the world with his personal approach to both jazz and classical music. In Denmark he has been nominated for Musician of the Year at the Danish Music Awards Jazz, and he has collaborated with the Grawemeyer Award-winning composer Bent Sørensen, who has written a guitar fantasy dedicated to him. In 2027 Mikkel Ploug releases his 20th album, but the first on a classical label, OUR Recordings, founded by Lars Hannibal and Michala Petri. The album is devoted to music by J. S. Bach. During the lockdown in 2020, Mikkel became known nationwide for his atmospheric guitar interpretations of Danish songs, played from the balcony to neighbours and an international audience on live-streaming. Politiken gave it five hearts and wrote: "Master guitarist interprets the song treasury so that the tears flow." These interpretations formed the basis of the solo album Balcony Lullabies, which was named Best Jazz Album of 2020 by Morningstar (UK) and Musenblätter (Germany), recommended by Rolling Stone Magazine and placed on the Danish Top 40 list of best-selling vinyl releases in DK. At the concert Mikkel plays guitar versions of J. S Bach, Carl Nielsen and selected hymns.
