Description
Travel through the history of ballet as the founder of New York City Ballet opens the treasure chest and invites us into a world of dance and gemstones. One of the great key works of ballet is back on Gamle Scene. Balanchine uses the gemstones to describe three eras in the history of dance, elegantly interwoven with the most important stages in his own life - from childhood in Russia through his youth in France to his new life in the USA. The green Emeralds, to music by Fauré, is a tribute to the Romantic French ballet of the 1800s - lyrical, with a hint of quiet melancholy and longing. The red Rubies, with Stravinsky's score, is like the energetic USA of the jazz age - razor-sharp and dynamic. And as the final highlight comes the white Diamonds, accompanied by Tchaikovsky's music, in a declaration of love to the heyday of Russian imperial ballet - virtuosic, elegant and sumptuous. Duration 2 hours and 10 minutes including 2 intervals. Recommended from age 6. Programme: Fauré / Emeralds Stravinsky / Rubies Tchaikovsky / Diamonds
