Description
The warm, dark sound of the cor anglais is the focal point of Danish Resonance. Rixon Thomas and Felicia Greciuc meet Kapellet’s string quintet and the pianist Ian Ryan in an intimate chamber concert, where Danish music by Hilda Sehested, Hans Abrahamsen and Vagn Holmboe is set in dialogue with Bach and Haydn. The programme lets the cor anglais step forward as both soloist and chamber music partner. In Hilda Sehested’s To Fantasistykker the cor anglais meets the sound of the string ensemble, while Hans Abrahamsen’s Herbstlied brings together cor anglais, string trio and piano in a subdued, poetic expression. The different line-ups invite you to experience the instrument’s nuances and its interplay with strings and piano. In excerpts from J. S. Bach’s Partita No. 2 for solo violin, BWV 1004, arranged by Alexandre Oguey, oboe and cor anglais meet in a conversation between two related voices. Vagn Holmboe’s Musik til Morten then gives the oboe its own place alongside the string quartet. The concert closes with Joseph Haydn’s Piano Trio No. 39, “Gypsy”, in an arrangement for cor anglais and string quintet, where the cor anglais again takes a central role. After the concert the three Danish works — Sehested’s To Fantasistykker, Abrahamsen’s Herbstlied and Holmboe’s Musik til Morten — will be recorded for a release on Dacapo Records, planned for March 2027. The recording project gives precisely these three works a life beyond the concert hall.
